Romelu Lukaku has reportedly told Inter Milan he is keen to sign for Chelsea this summer and there is a growing feeling the deal will happen.
It was reported last week that the Belgian striker politely refused a return to Stamford Bridge as he was very happy with his life at Italian champions Inter Milan.
However, according to The Telegraph, Lukaku told Inter to accept a suitable offer and grant his wish to join the Blues.
Inter want the European champions to shell out at least £ 100million for their star striker as they aim to balance their pound this summer and ease their financial woes.
Chelsea have reportedly tried twice to re-sign their former striker again, with his most recent offer of £ 85million and defender Marcos Alonso being rejected by the Italian club.
Inter expect Chelsea to return with an improved third offer by the weekend, but defender Alonso, 30, should be convinced that a move to Milan is right for him.
Lukaku only made 15 appearances in his three years on the books at the West London club before sealing a £ 28million move to Everton.
His excellent performances at Goodison Park earned him a £ 75million transfer to Manchester United three years later before challenging himself again at Inter in 2019.
He took his game to new levels at Inter helping them win Serie A last season. However, it is believed that Inter cannot compete on the European stage like Chelsea, who won the Champions League last season.
There has been a change at Inter since winning the Scudetto with Antonio Conte’s sudden resignation in May, while a number of their players have left, including Achraf Hakimi and Ashley Young.
As for Chelsea, they would be more than ready to push Man City for the Premier League title this season if they land Lukaku, believes former striker Darren Bent.
“If Chelsea got Lukaku and even if Manchester City got one from Harry Kane or Jack Grealish, Chelsea would close the distance again,” Bent told talkSPORT.
“We saw them win the Champions League, it must be said quite comfortably with Werner arriving on the left.
“Last season, Chelsea lost points because of missed opportunities in key moments, Werner missed a lot but was falling into place, Thomas Tuchel does not really want Tammy Abraham.
“If you bring in someone like Lukaku, you give him opportunities, he will score goals. We saw how much his bonding game improved at Euro 2020 and so did his touch.
“He’s improved so much over the past two seasons so if Chelsea has him they’re so close to Manchester City.”
