Romelu Lukaku and Antonio Rudiger have been supported to be key Chelsea men for many years to come despite the uncertainty surrounding their future.
Lukaku gave an explosive interview where he said he was not happy with his role with the Blues and would like to join Inter Milan in the near future.
The Belgian striker has apologized to the club and supporters, expressing his commitment to the club, but this has cast doubt on his position within the club.
Rudiger’s situation is also far from clear with his contract which expires this summer, with Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta.
The center-back has been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, but he could still sign a new contract.
“I think they do [have to keep Rudiger]Chelsea legend Joe Cole told talkSPORT Breakfast. “It’s been a well established ship over the past year and you have the boys with contract negotiations.
“These things, they take time. You had the contract Thiago Silva, César [Azpilicueta], Rudiger and they’re trying to juggle and get the right recruiting for next season.
“The four guys who are coming to the end of their contract, I think their professionalism has been exceptional and their performance levels haven’t dropped.
“Rudiger was one of the exceptional players in Thomas Tuchel’s reign. He’s a great player and a great character and they’ll be looking to keep him.
“I don’t see the effect in his performance. I think he’s gonna stay, really. He has found a home there, he is loved by the fans and the club. I imagine he remains.
“When you’re at a club like Chelsea, you’re European champion, and there aren’t many places that can turn your head.”
Lukaku was a £ 97.5million signing from Inter Milan this summer and the storm surrounding his interview has calmed down.
Cole praised the club and the player for the way they have handled the situation since.
He added: “You look at the situation and we all made mistakes in interviews and said things that we shouldn’t have as young and seasoned footballers.
“I think Chelsea handled it very well. Maybe years ago it would have lasted, but Thomas Tuchel had the conversation, left it out for a game, now he’s back.
“He just needs to get back to what he’s doing and that’s scoring goals. I looked at the body language in the games and I think it is involved.
“He had an injury and I think it affected him. I think they handled it well. I still think he will be a great player for the club for many years to come.
“It was a bit of a departure for him, but he looks like a leader.”
