“I have gratitude and deep humility for the gifts I have received and worked for in this world,” Rob told the magazine.
As a teenager, he said “he had a huge fantasy world in my head, and then I found something I could focus all my energies on instead of living in the moment, which often, as a kid, was sad or uncomfortable”. on acting.
He began his career at age 12 in 1976, with a role as an errand boy in a summer theater production of Sherlock Holmes in Dayton, Ohio.
He starred in the 1983 TV movie Thursday’s Child, which earned him his first Golden Globe nomination.

Rob became a household name after starring in The Outsiders and then St. Elmo’s Fire.
“People talk about how the industry has changed… Warner Brothers would supply beer in the van to 15-year-old Tommy Howell and 17-year-old Rob. It was just a different world,” Rob said.
Rob recalled when he hit rock bottom at 26 in 1990, when his mother called him and left him a message that his grandfather had had a heart attack.
He had just come back from the party and he didn’t answer the phone even when he begged.
“I remember going into the bathroom, looking in the mirror, and my thought process was, ‘You have to drink straight from his bottle of Cuervo Gold to be able to fall asleep, to wake up, to be able to do face it, he said.

He met his wife Sheryl in 1990 while on the Bad Influence project, and he recalled feeling “seen” with her.
On their relationship: “I felt like if I was going to be able to make it work with anyone, it was Sheryl.” Alcohol and drugs were only going to make it impossible,” he told the magazine.
