Author, screenwriter and director/producer Robert Rippberger will speak about “The Power of Storytelling: Social Impact Entertainment” and his new book of the same name, at the Ridge Writers General Meeting on Thursday, October 5 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church, 633 W. Las Flores. The public is invited and entry is free.
It will explain how entertainment and media have had a positive and negative impact over the past century and provide unprecedented insight into how a simple story can change the world.
With extensive creative and directing experience, Rippberger recently wrote and directed the feature film “Those Who Move Away.” Previously, he directed and produced the Harlem drama “Strive,” starring Danny Glover.
In 2016, he directed/produced the documentary “7 Days in Syria”, a look at the human side of the war in Aleppo, a film championed by Angelina Jolie and screened at the British House of Lords in front of senior members of the UN. on the Producers Guild of America Social Impact Entertainment Task Force.
Current projects include producing the documentary “How to Build a Truth Engine” with executive producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov, the documentary “The Mouse That Roared” by Academy Award-nominated director Judith Ehrlich, and producing the film stop-motion animation “The Inventor” from “Ratatouille” writer Jim Capobianco.
