It was a night neither he nor any City fan will ever forget – and now Rico Lewis has pondered long and hard on making history in our 3-1 Champions League win over Sevilla at the Etihad.

Handed his first senior start by manager Pep Guardiola in last month’s clash with the Spaniards, Lewis – then just 17 years and 346 days old – scored a sensational goal to equalize City.

In the process, he became the youngest player to score on his first Champions League start, breaking the record previously held by Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema.

The goal capped off a marvelous all-around display from our Academy graduate, cheered on by Guardiola, his team-mates and an Etihad crowd of ability.

Now reflecting on a magical night, Lewis says he helped make his family proud as he capped off what turned out to be an incredible evening.

“My grandpa was watching the Etihad for the first time with my dad which made it perfect and my mom was at home jumping in the living room,” Rico revealed.

“I couldn’t sleep that night. It was just amazing

“They’ve been with me all the way and that I can give back to them making them proud – and the fact that I can just play football and they’re happy for me – I couldn’t wish for anything better.

“They messaged me after the game, and it made me feel 10 times better again because I knew they were proud of me.”

We also hear from Pep Guardiola, fellow Academy graduate Josh Wilson-Esbrand and Portugal City international Ruben Dias who played alongside Rico that night.
