Ricciardo arrived in Turkey after finishing in the top five in a row, winning the Italian Grand Prix at Monza and finishing fourth in Russia after the late rain.
But Turkey turned out to be a more difficult weekend for Ricciardo as McLaren struggled to buy time leading him to retire in Q1.
The team opted to equip Ricciardo’s car with a whole new powertrain, resigning him to staying on the grid, but a struggle to regain positions resulted in an early stoppage for the intermediates.
Ricciardo raced to 11th place but dropped to 13th with two laps to go after being passed by the two Alfa Romeo drivers when his worn tires started to slow down.
While Ricciardo was convinced that there were lessons for McLaren for his struggles in Turkey, he said he didn’t want to dwell on it and let it spoil his recent return to form.
“I don’t want to lay off this weekend, but let’s say from a trajectory [point of view] I want to reject it, ”Ricciardo said after the run in the written media pen in Istanbul Park.
“I don’t want that to put us off. This is one of those weekends that wasn’t good.
“I know we’re going to debrief now before we leave here, so hopefully we’ll put some information on the table and try to learn something.
“But I don’t want this weekend to affect our momentum. [It is] Just one of these days. So as long as we can learn, we’ll move on. “

The longer turns and limited nature at the front of the Istanbul Park circuit worked against the strengths of the McLaren MCL35M, just like at Zandvoort last month.
In anticipation of the United States Grand Prix in Austin next week, Ricciardo was more optimistic about the team’s chances on the Circuit of the Americas.
“I think there are definitely some corners that we will be good at,” said Ricciardo.
“The first sector should be fine, the corners at quite high speed, I think we will be decent. All the corners should be fine, we are good at braking normally.
“Some of the latter areas might hurt us a bit, but look, I think we’ll be back in a competitive position.
“I hope it’s 38 degrees, it’s really hot, everyone’s sweating and we’re enjoying it.”
