Read on for our review of Smokejumpers Grill’s new River Shake and Apple Moonshine at Disney California Adventure.
River Shake – $8.99
Blue Raspberry Shake with Crumbled Chocolate Cookies, Flavor-Filled Boba, Whipped Cream and Gummies
This jerk is interesting. Imagine your favorite vanilla In-N-Out shake paired with your favorite ’90s blue raspberry candy, and here’s what we have. But wait; you enjoy your blue raspberry shake, then there’s a random pop of cherry boba followed by a piece of chocolate cookie (Oreo) from the bottom. There are also gummy bears that get hard if you don’t eat them right away.
There’s a lot going on here. If you are adventurous then go for it. If you like blue raspberry, you’ll probably enjoy it. It’s oddly not too sweet but none of the flavors blend well. There’s the gummy bear, then the blue raspberry, then the cherry boba, then the chocolate cookie. The boba and cookies get stuck in the straw which is slightly annoying. All in all, this is an interesting variant of the blue raspberry; but unless you’re a huge blue razz fan, you can probably skip this shake going through some sort of identity crisis.
Moonshine Apple Pie – $12
Moonshine whiskey with apple cider, apple juice and vanilla notes
It’s alcoholic. And you get what you pay for for $12. It’s not undrinkable but it’s not for the faint of heart.
Mix well before drinking so that all the flavors blend together. The first note is moonshine but it ends with apple cider.
Vanilla is not very present but that’s fine. All in all we would get it again as it would be very refreshing on a hot day.
Apples and moonshine are a great pairing. If you don’t like hard liquor or apples, skip this, but if not, it’s worth trying something new at Disney California Adventure.
