Retired NBA star Lamar Odom was involved in another car accident last week. WFMZ Reports that the wreck took place in Los Angeles around 3 a.m. Monday morning and that he is currently “completely fine.” Odom was apparently on his way home from a friend’s house when, according to his spokesperson, “his phone fell and it fell to the floor and when he reached for it, his arm followed “.
This action led him to drive his white Mercedes-Benz into a parked car which then hit another parked car. No one was in any of the parked cars, and while it’s unclear exactly how fast Odom was going at the time, it would have been fast enough to leave him “a little shaken” after “deploying his three airbags.
When police arrived, they questioned Odom, who has a history of alcohol and drug abuse, about his sobriety, but allegedly took him at his word, saying he had not been drinking and that he didn’t do drugs, because he now owns and stays in rehab centers. sober. This was apparently enough for the Los Angeles Police Departmentwho failed to perform a sobriety test on the retired athlete.
Assuming his version of events is accurate, Odom’s latest crash is once again a reminder to put your damn phone away while you drive. And if it falls off a stand for any reason, it’s much safer to stop and park before digging around in the ground to retrieve it. Even if your phone gets damaged in the process, repairing it will likely cost less than getting into a wreck.
This isn’t Odom’s first phone-related car accident, either. In 2011, Odom’s driver hit a motorcyclist who then hit a teenage pedestrian, who later died at the hospital. At the time, he blamed the fatal accident on his driver who failed to see the motorcyclist while he was handing Odom a phone.
