Arsenal are NOT in talks on a deal to sign Portuguese prodigy Joelson Fernandes, their agent told talkSPORT.
Recent transfer reports have linked the Gunners with an interest in 17-year-old forward Fernandes, who is the latest high-profile prospect to come out of Sporting Lisbon’s famous academy.
He’s also another player under the wing of super-agent Kia Joorabchian, who represents a host of top-level players, including new Gunners signing Willian and reported target Philippe Coutinho.
Rumors have it that Fernandes has caught the attention of a number of top European clubs and Arsenal have opened negotiations on a summer transfer.
It has been suggested that the Gunners are willing to offer one of their own players to Sporting as part of a trade, to help reduce the youngster’s £ 40million release clause, and that representatives of the club met with Joorabchian to discuss the deal.
But the agent put an end to the rumors, insisting that the gossip is “so wrong”.
“Everyone connects a lot of players at many clubs, especially with Arsenal than others,” Joorabchian told talkSPORT.
“Today I read something about Joelson Fernandes, that Arsenal made an offer etc. etc. etc.
“He’s a phenomenal young talent, but we’ve never, never talked about him at Arsenal.
“I’ve probably seen 25 articles about him and Arsenal and it’s so wrong, because I never even talked about him, I never even mentioned him to Arsenal.
“He’s at Sporting and he’s young, he just made his debut in the first team at the age of 17, so he’s going to take time to mature and get there.
“So there’s always a lot of rumors in the market because obviously we’re in the business where the fans want to know and the reporters have to try and see what’s going on and they’re going to take the smaller rumor and run with it.” .
“But sometimes that’s quite far from the truth.”
