According to ESPN Jeremy fowler, the Indianapolis Colts are among NFL contenders ‘keeping tabs’ on Tennessee Titans free agent advantage Jadeveon clowney:
The Ravens and Colts were among the teams keeping an eye on Jadeveon Clowney, but the Browns were the most aggressive in trying to get something done. Clowney opted against Cleveland last offseason, but this time the feeling is different.

Clowney is in contract / recruiting negotiations with the Cleveland Browns today and a deal could very well be reached soon between the two sides – making it an entirely moot point:
The Cleveland Browns are in talks with free agent Jadeveon Clowney per sources. They hope to strike a deal soon. I was told “it hasn’t been done yet”.

The former first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft just suffered a hobbled injury in the 2020 season that limited him to just 8 games – after sustaining a lingering knee injury.
As such, Clowney recorded just 19 tackles (14 solo), 4 tackles for loss, 0 sacks, 28 total QB presses, 4 defensive passes and a forced fumble for 8 starts.
When in full health, the former defensive monster from South Carolina hasn’t quite lived up to his huge hype, but he’s always been quite productive at times – as a former NFL All-Pro and 3x Pro Bowler return with their home team, the Houston Texans.
That being said, it’s fair to know if a number of injuries undermined Clowney’s explosiveness, including a previous microfracture operation on his knee.
He’s arguably more efficient against the run – establishing the advantage, than as a passer after the quarterback these days – as he’s just 3.0 sacks in his last 19 starts with the Titans and the Seattle Seahawks.
By PFF (subscription), Clowney was their 19th best edge defender with an overall rating of +74.9 before the knee injury prematurely ended his season in 2020.
Of course, the Colts would be in the market for a veteran rusher pass, in a group that includes not only Clowney, but likely their own free agent advantage Justin houston.
Houston is set to visit the Baltimore Ravens this week, so Clowney could be an alternate option for the Colts.
The Colts could use a stable veteran presence to help complement some of their more unpredictable and volatile young passing throwers – having already lost the veteran to the start of the defense. Denico Autry in free agency.
Whether it’s Clowney or another veteran, remains to be seen.
Like anything else, it probably comes down to cost with the Colts.
