Case closed, the crime drama that aired on CBS from 2003 to 2010, aired longer than it was, but many fans still remember the series. Unfortunately, it is a little difficult to watch because of the musical rights, which have entangled many releases of TV program discs.
While not as readily available for streaming as some other shows, the series’ six main players, Kathryn Morris, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Thom Barry, Danny Pino and Tracie Thoms, have all had solid careers, often on other cop shows.
What happened to “Cold Case?”
Case closed came out when crime shows were in the limelight, especially on CBS. Admittedly, there are few times that police and criminal programs are not hot tickets, but they particularly ruled the roost in the early 2000s, thanks to the success of CSI, its various spinoffs and other copiers.
The particular premise of Case closed was his focus on the Philadelphia Police Department and Detective Lilly Rush (Morris), as they focused on cases that had not been actively pursued by the department.
Each episode generally highlighted a specific investigation, usually a murder. The show often featured a double cast, with two actors playing a person at different times – when the crime originally took place and when the investigation was reopened. The show was one of Jennifer Lawrence’s pre-celebrity appearances.
The show had a good run in its first seasons, peaking at number 14 in its second season. Unfortunately, a writer’s strike in the fifth season contributed to a drop in ratings. Case closed was finally canceled after its seventh season, when the show ranked 29th.
The music rights prevented the show from being broadcast on physical media, but it is available for streaming on The Roku Channel. A look at the actors’ IMDB credits reveals what the actors appeared in.
Where to find Kathryn Morris, John Finn and Jeremy Ratchford
Kathryn Morris came Case closed having appeared in Steven Spielberg Minority report as the wife of Tom Cruise, and while the show was in progress, she also starred in movies Mindhunters, Paycheck, and Resuscitate the Champ. Most recently, she starred in Dirtiness, the Netflix biopic on the Motley Crue group.
John Finn, who played lieutenant, John Stillman, came to the cold case with appearances in Glory and Catch Me If You Can under his belt. After Case closed, his credits included The Walking Dead, NCISand the drama of astronaut Brad Pitt Ad Astra.
Jeremy Ratchford played detective Nick Vera, having previously appeared on NYPD Blue, CSI, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. After Case closed, he made a little mini-career by playing detectives and police in episodes of Shameless and It’s always nice in Philadelphia and in Clint Eastwood Jersey boys.
Where to find Thom Barry, Danny Pino and Tracie Thoms?
Thom Barry played the detective Will Jeffries, having played the role of agent Bilkins in the first two Fast and furious movies and Space jam. After Cold Case, his appearances included Blue Bloods, Grey’s Anatomy and Eddie Murphy’s film Mr.Church.
Danny Pino’s resume includes appearances in numerous police and legal dramas, including CSI: NY, Burn Notice and Law & Order: Special unit for victims. Sure Cold casee, he played detective Scotty Valens. After the show, his credits included Chicago PD, BrainDead, and more recently Mayans MC.
Tracie Thoms is arguably the most famous face to come out of Case closed, after appearing in the film version of the legendary musical Rental before joining Case closed in his third season, playing detective Kat Miller.
After Case closed, his most important role was a main role in Quentin Tarantino Proof of death, where she embodies a stuntwoman who reluctantly agrees to take another stuntwoman on a very dangerous road.
