Referee Ivan Barton appeared to shout ‘shut up’ after Senegal failed to earn a penalty against England.

The Salvadoran official was in charge of the Round of 16 tie between the two sides on Sunday night and was quick to remind everyone who was in charge.

Midway through the second half, Senegal demanded a penalty as the ball appeared to hit John Stones’ hand.

But despite protests from the African side, the referee did not point the spot, and a VAR check further confirmed it was not a penalty.

Shortly before play resumed, Barton appeared to shout “Shut up!” though it’s unclear who he was saying as well.

Seconds after the incident, Watford man Ismaila Sarr had a great chance to put Senegal ahead but he launched his effort over the bar.

They were quickly punished for the failure as Jordan Henderson scored his first-ever World Cup goal to put England ahead.

Harry Kane then got his first of the tournament at half-time, shooting past Edouard Mendy from Phil Foden’s through ball to make it 2-0.
