Redtail Overland, a company based in Longmont, Colorado, introduced the very first rooftop motorhome or RTC.
Hardshell roof campers have always had flexible walls. This makes folding possible for these bulky portable tents, allowing for a more practical configuration. You just have to fold the top and bottom hulls together and you’re good to go – a much more convenient storage process than soft top campers.

In fact, even the best lists of the best hard-top motorhomes published recently are not accompanied by rigid walls, which shows the lack of this technology for retractable motorhomes. Redtail begs to stand out with its rooftop motorhome, made of carbon fiber.
Redtail’s RTC aims to provide an extra layer of wildlife protection when you’re off-road or on your camping trips, as well as stability, noise reduction and weather resistance – things that are lacking in campers on soft-walled roofs. And, since it’s made from insulated carbon fiber, Redtail argues that the RTC is both strong and light, factors to consider when adding something on top of your vehicle.
In addition to the rigid walls, the Redtail RTC is also available in two sizes (RT 90 and RT 110) to adapt to different vehicle sizes, as well as up to 330 watts of solar energy and 60 amp hour battery hours lithium. The latter provides dimmable LED lighting, a high speed variable speed fan, heat, charging ports for gadgets and an inverter. Finally, the rigid-walled wall has transparent double-glazed windows to allow the entry of natural light.
And oh, Redtail RTC comes with a floor hatch to allow direct access to vehicles with sunroofs.
Redtail offers pre-orders for campers on hard roofs, priced at $ 25,000 for the RT 110 and $ 20,000 for the RT 90. All Redtail RTCs are handcrafted in Colorado and made to order. Construction orders are expected to be in August 2020.

Designed for the modern nomad, the Redtail RTC offers the agile freedom of a rooftop tent with the security and convenience of a hard motorhome. Available in two sizes to suit a variety of vehicles, each RTC is handcrafted in Colorado and custom built. The founders Ty and Annie Tatro, former leaders of the luxury land vehicle manufacturer EarthRoamer, drew on their vast personal and professional experience to create a new product in a class of its own, the rooftop motorhome (RTC). The lightweight carbon fiber construction allows the RTC Redtail at the cutting edge of technology to offer equipment never seen on the rooftop camping market, in particular: • Insulated carbon fiber structure (top, bottom, walls and doors) • Impact resistant double glazed polycarbonate windows • Lockable doors, windows and shell • High altitude diesel heating • Large variable speed fan • Up to 330 watts of solar power • Lithium battery bank up to 60 amps • USB and 110 sockets • 250 watt inverter • Dimmable interior and exterior LED lighting • 30 seconds of configuration and failure The Redtail RTC solves many problems common to the experience of traditional roof tents: • Stability and reduction of noise in the wind. • Waterproofing in all conditions. • Security. The RTC can be locked when in the closed or open position. • Bear country obligations for hard side campers. • Four season capacity. Stay warm with a built-in high altitude radiator adjustable up to 11,000 feet, or cool off with the high speed variable speed fan. • Configuration and failure process. Many tents on the roof offer quick installation, but breakdown has always been an issue with a bulky canvas to tuck in and tough locks. The articulated walls of the RTC simply fold in on themselves and close like the trunk of a car, without rigid locks to manage. • Comfort. RTC offers unprecedented comfort in the rooftop camping space with dimmable LED lighting, high speed variable speed fan, heat, clear double glazed windows for abundant natural light even in bad weather , charging ports for your electronic devices, an inverter for larger technology and a fully integrated solar panel and a bank of lithium batteries. • Vehicle access. The integrated RTC floor hatch allows direct access to your vehicle, if it is equipped with a sunroof or passage and depending on the configuration. • Easy installation. The RTC is completely independent of your vehicle, it is not necessary to connect it to your car or to adjust the heating, although these two options are possible if you wish. Compared to larger towing and RV options, the Redtail RTC offers unmatched convenience. • Keep full use of an existing vehicle or truck bed. • Nothing to record. • No additional insurance. • Nothing to tow. • Nothing to store. • Nothing to winter. • No preparation required for use. • Minimum maintenance. PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE NOW The Redtail 110 and Redtail 90 are priced at $ 25k and $ 20k respectively and are available for pre-order now. A 10% deposit reserves a production position. Construction of retail units is expected to start in August 2020 and the product is expected to hit the market in October 2020
