SEOUL, South Korea — The Urawa Reds advanced to the Asian Champions League quarter-finals after the Japanese team beat Malaysia’s Johor Darul Tazim 5-0 on Friday.

Alexander Scholz gave the Reds the lead from the penalty spot after just eight minutes and the two-time champion looked at ease in front of his home fans at Saitama Stadium. David Moberg Karlsson scored twice before the break and Kasper Junker added two more late in the game to complete the win in the one-legged encounter.

Thailand’s Pathum United also comfortably won their Round of 16 match, beating Hong Kong’s Kitchee 4-0 with goals from Worachit Kanitsribumphen, Ikhsan Fandi, Teerasil Dangda and Chatmongkol Tongkiri.

South Korea’s Jeonbuk Motors and Japan’s Vissel Kobe won on Thursday to complete the East Zone quarter-final roster. The draw will take place on Saturday and the matches will take place in Japan two days later.

The tournament is divided into two geographic regions. Round of 16 matches in the western half of the draw will not take place until February 2023.
