‘Really mediocre goalkeeper’ – Hugo Lloris slammed for ‘two bad mistakes’ as in-form Gabriel Jesus punishes Tottenham and gives Arsenal the lead in the North London derby

Hugo Lloris had a moment to forget as a goalkeeping error gave Arsenal the lead in the North London derby.

The Gunners had already taken the lead through Thomas Partey’s 25-yard stunner, before Harry Kane leveled the game with a first-half penalty.

As the game progressed into the second half, Spurs would have hoped they had held on with the intention of catching Mikel Arteta’s side on the counter and hopefully taking a lead of their own.

Unfortunately, a mistake by the Tottenham skipper left them with a lot of work to do.

Four minutes after the break, Bukayo Saka cut his left foot on the right side of the penalty area and made an effort towards the goal.

As Lloris managed to keep it out of the net, the Frenchman knocked the ball straight into Jesus’ path.

Lloris tried to make amends but knocked the ball under his body, giving the in-form Brazilian striker an open goal to give Arsenal a 2-1 lead.

Discussing the goal on talkSPORT commentary, former Gunners star Perry Groves said: “He’s a really bad goalkeeper from Hugo Lloris.

“Gabriel Jesus was the exceptional player in the first half, he was lively.

“He did exactly what you want your centre-forward to do as if there were outbursts from the goalkeeper, you make sure you’re the first to react.

“He comes to Bukayo Saka, takes it on his left foot and gets his shot and Hugo Lloris should take the ball away from goal.

“These are two bad mistakes by Hugo Lloris.”

Tottenham legend Clive Allen added live from the Emiates: “It’s a really bad Spurs defense from the start, again they’re too deep, and it just allows Saka to push his way through. the surface.

“The cross shot wasn’t handled well by Lloris, he almost goes over the top and Jesus is so sharp and he’s within range for an easy, open goal to put Arsenal ahead.”
