Perez says football is sick
Real Madrid held their general meeting on Sunday morning and club president Florentino Perez took the opportunity to complain about his view of the state of the game.
One of Perez’s main arguments for the concept was to allow Europe’s top flight to play each other more often, even though Madrid had to contend Inter, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool on course to win the Champions League last season.
“To solve a problem, you must first recognize that you have a problem,” Perez said at the club’s AGM on Sunday. “Our sport is sick. It loses its leadership as a world sport.
“In tennis, Nadal and Federer have played 40 times in 15 years. Nadal and Djokovic have played 59 games in 16 years,added Perez.
“In football, we have only played against Liverpool nine times in 67 years. We have faced Chelsea four times in European Cup history. What sense does it make to deprive fans of all these games? »
