Despite a strong start to the 2022/23 season, Real Madrid are already looking beyond the campaign, with a report from AS (h/t SPORT) claiming they are considering raiding Manchester City with a bid for his striker Erling Haaland in 2024.
Haaland, 22, joined Manchester City ahead of the current season from Borussia Dortmund for an estimated fee of around €60m. Signing a five-year contract with the Premier League champions, Haaland has already scored 14 goals for his new side in just nine appearances in all competitions.
Real Madrid, who were keen on signing Haaland from Dortmund in the past, have once again set their sights on the Norwegian.
The plan regarding Haaland would be executed in the summer of 2024 and not until next season. Indeed, the striker’s dismissal clause will come into force in 2024 in case he wants to change his environment.
By then, Karim Benzema will be 36 and Real Madrid would like someone to replace the aging Frenchman.
In such a scenario, Haaland would be a perfect candidate given his goalscoring record. In a total of 207 matches in all club football competitions, the striker scored 167 goals. This translates to a goals-per-game ratio of 0.8.
The report further mentions that the deal to sign Haaland from Manchester City could be done for around €180m.
For now, Real will continue to rely on the services of Benzema, who recently returned to training after missing three weeks of action with knee discomfort.
Meanwhile, as previously reported, Haaland isn’t the only Manchester City player Real have set their sights on, with Joao Cancelo also catching their attention. The versatile €60m-rated full-back is believed to be someone who can be approached in the summer of 2023.
Interestingly, it should be noted that the Portuguese full-back signed a new contract with the Premier League champions in February this year which is expected to keep him at the club until 2027.
