Some products appear all over: metro ads, Instagram, celebrity recommendations. With this series, we’re testing these products to conclude one thing – does it live up to the hype?

Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty, launched in September 2020, captured the intrigue of everyone, from She is beauty editors to beauty gurus like Manny MUA, as one of the hottest celebrity-owned beauty brands around. Gomez’s adventure into the world of beauty is growing in popularity, not only among hardcore selectors, but also beauty influencers and editors.

Celebrity-owned beauty brands are nothing new, but Selena Gomez has taken her new role as a cosmetics entrepreneur to the next level with her brand, Rare Beauty. Available exclusively at Sephora, Gomez’s collection of lush lippies, vibrant eye shadow palettes and more can be eye-catching, but what really sets this celebrity-backed brand apart is Gomez’s support for awareness. to mental health through Rare Beauty’s Rare Impact Fund.

Celebrity beauty brands have dethroned celebrity scents since the early 2020s. There are so many famous brands in the market now (see: Rihanna, Halsey, Pharrell), which has flooded the entire beauty market with famous faces. That leaves us wondering: are any of these celebrity-backed brands worth it?

If we could pick just one famous beauty brand to stock up on for the rest of our lives, it would be Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty for her impressive list of formulas that work better than their more expensive luxury counterparts. At first glance, it might seem like any average cosmetic brand, filled with the usual neutrals and red lippies, liquid blushes, and more.

I have a high level when it comes to cosmetics, so here are the criteria I thought of when testing Rare Beauty Foundation, Concealer, Liquid Liner, and Liquid Blusher:

  • Is it easy to apply?

  • How long does each product last without smearing or fading?

  • How does it feel on the skin?

  • Did it cause acne or rashes?

Put simply, Rare Beauty’s amazing products passed my test with flying colors. None of the products I have used ever broke me and each lasted for hours without the need for touch-ups. Here are some highlights of these bestsellers from beauty brand Selena Gomez:

Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Lightweight Foundation

When they say weightless they really mean weightless when it comes to that awesome foundation. For just under $ 30, this foundation outperforms any other I’ve tried – really.

A few touches of this liquid foundation creates a canvas without buttons and creates a smooth look instead of seeping into fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, it’s available in 48 shades (and no, not all of them are light to beige), and they stay on for hours without smearing or fading.

I like a foundation that I don’t feel on my face because I have sensitive skin that very itching with the wrong products on it. Also, I only like foundations with both a matte finish and dew, and this choice perfectly matches my needs.

I might be dragged out for saying this, but I honestly think it’s even better than Fenty Beauty foundation because it’s lighter, less matte, and easier to wear. Quick Appeal: This formula isn’t oil-free, so don’t worry if the foundation starts to separate – a quick shake is all it takes to get back to normal.

Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer

This concealer has some really rave reviews, but it was my least favorite of the bunch. I felt like it didn’t stay put on my usually greasy under-eyes, and my mascara continued to blend in with the concealer to create a gray tint that accentuated my dark circles. But that doesn’t mean this concealer won’t work for you. I just think oily skin should go for a more matte, stick-like formula instead of a liquid concealer.

However, when it comes to other areas of my face, this concealer definitely got the job done. It easily masked pimples and was great for brightening up other areas of my face like my upper lip. Plus, just like the foundation, this buildable formula is also available in 48 shades to choose from, another big plus.

Rare Beauty Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner

I’ve worn a sharp cat eye almost every day of my life since I was 11, so I can say I know everything there is to know about liquid eyeliner. My usual pick is the KVD Vegan Beauty Liner, but this one might just replace it for good. First of all, it’s super light and easy to hold, which gives you more control and precision.

Second, its felt tip gives the perfect amount of pigment without spilling or popping out when you tap, making the meticulous process of lining your eyes a lot easier. And above all, he Actually stays on without smearing, bleeding or discoloration throughout the day.

TL; DR: Of all the products on Rare Beauty’s list, this one is definitely worth the investment (tiny).

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush

If I could write a full essay on why everyone needs to buy this blush, I would. It’s very easy to blend, and one to two touches is enough to create the most natural pop of color on your cheeks. I don’t know how they did it, but Rare Beauty has concocted a liquid blush that won’t make you look like a rag doll, and I’m completely addicted to it.

Its buildable formula gives you full control over the intensity of the pigment, but that doesn’t mean you need a heavy hand with this blush. Just one little touch will give you the pink pop you’ve been looking for, and it’s so light on your skin that you might even forget you’re wearing anything. The Joy shade is my favorite for its true peach hue, but there are eight shades to choose from and two finishes (matte and radiant).

Now, let’s talk about Ms. Selena Gomez for a moment: why would a successful singer / actress want to start stepping into the beauty world? Well, according to Gomez, it was much more than just creating another celebrity makeup line – it was a way for the star to start a conversation about raising awareness about mental health, a cause very close and dear to his heart. This is why Rare Beauty launched The Rare Impact Fund, which promises to raise $ 100 million over the next 10 years to help people access mental health services, and 1% of Rare Beauty’s annual sales will go directly. to the Rare Impact Fund.

As if it couldn’t get any better, here’s one more amazing thing about Rare Beauty: everything costs $ 30 or less.

When it comes to Selena Gomez’s cosmetics collection, I just can’t keep my hands to myself (#sorrynotsorry for the pun). Each of the products I tried met my personal testing criteria, and the brand’s price range and philanthropic ethos can’t be beat.

To put it simply, if I said I didn’t like Rare Beauty, I would be a bad liar (again, not sorry).
