France defenders Raphael Varane and Ibrahima Konaté have become the latest players to fall ill before the World Cup final, according to reports.

Didier Deschamps’ side saw three players out last week, with Dayot Upamecano and Adrien Rabiot both falling ill.

It was soon revealed that Kingsley Coman had also felt the effects and the trio were unable to take part in the semi-final victory over Morocco.

Now L’Equipe are reporting that Varane is suffering from mild symptoms and Konate is worse, just two days away from the showpiece of the event.

In more positive news, French football expert Julien Laurens revealed that Upamecano, Coman and Rabiot could be available.

“No, it’s not that bad,” he revealed to Alan Brazil on talkSPORT. “Dayot Upamecano who missed the semi-final is back, they have resumed training.

“Kingsley Coman, he’s the one with a little sore throat but he felt better. It’s good.

“I think Rabiot was the big loss, he would have been a big loss for the final. If he’s back, if he can come back, I think that would be a big boost.

France wants to win its third World Cup

France were by no means the standout side of the tournament, but still did well in reaching back-to-back finals given their long list of absentees.

The Blues won their group and beat Poland, England and Morocco en route to the bottom two.

They face two-time winners Argentina on Sunday, with the South Americans losing in their last final in 2014.

France will be delighted to see the return of some of their stars as they aim to become the first consecutive World Cup winners since Brazil in 1962.
