The next-generation Land Rover Range Rover has been one of the most widely touted vehicles this year. We’ve seen many different prototypes tested at several different locations around the world, and it looks like the British luxury SUV is now back at the Nürburgring for another high-speed test session. With its enormous dimensions and (Probably) a new V8 engine under the hood, it’s definitely a sight to see.
There’s no denying that the Range Rover was never meant to be good around corners, although that doesn’t mean it has to be slow and heavy. In 2021, every new model on the market has to meet at least some criteria when it comes to handling, and judging from what we see in the video, the new Range Rover will offer some pretty decent cornering ability considering of its size. And weight.
We mentioned that there is a V8 that we can barely hear due to the tire squealing on every corner, and we want to develop that a bit more. The fourth-generation model features a 5.0-liter V8 engine in naturally aspirated and supercharged forms with an output of up to 510 horsepower (375 kilowatts). Its successor is rumored to get a version of BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and we would expect similar peak horsepower in the top-end models.
Alternatively, customers will be able to purchase a mild hybrid inline-six powertrain for entry-level trims, while a reworked version of Land Rover’s plug-in hybrid system is expected to be offered for mid-tier levels. This engine relies on a 2.0-liter turbo engine paired with an electric motor for a combined output of 398 horsepower (351 kilowatts) and 472 pound-feet (639 Newton-meters) of torque, but those numbers could change a bit for the new generation model.
Land Rover is expected to unveil the new Range Rover very soon. Most likely, this will happen in the next few months.
