England star Raheem Sterling has revealed he will only return to the World Cup in Qatar if his family is “safe”.
The Chelsea striker’s mansion was raided by a gang, who managed to find their way inside and steal £300,000 worth of watches and jewellery.
Sterling is believed to be the fourth star at the west London club which has been hit by the gang in recent months.
The raid reportedly took place less than 24 hours before the round of 16 between England and Senegal.
Sterling has since left the English camp and returned to London to be with his family.
The 27-year-old could, however, return for the Three Lions World Cup quarter-final against France on Saturday.
But that will only be the case if his family is safe.
A source told The Sun: “Raheem has told everyone, ‘There’s no way I’m going anywhere unless I’m 100 per cent sure my family can be protected.’ security and part of the reason they moved into the property is that it is on a very exclusive estate, with regular security patrols.
“Despite this, he still managed to be targeted, which is very upsetting for Raheem and Paige. They have just returned to London and want to feel safe.
Sterling and his family moved into his home in Oxshott, Surrey, after the Blues secured his services in a £47.5million deal from Manchester City in the summer.
His partner Paige is believed to have returned to the UK from Qatar with their young children, after England left the group stages.
Sterling has met with police, who are currently investigating, but no arrests have yet been made.
