Raheem Sterling is reportedly set to return to Qatar for England’s World Cup quarter-final against France following a burglary at his home.
The Chelsea winger returned to the UK when he discovered intruders had broken into his home in Surrey, and so he missed the Three Lions’ 3-0 win over Senegal.
He received full support from manager Gareth Southgate to leave the team amid the news.
Sterling also revealed he would only return to the England camp once he was sure his family would be safe after the robbery.
The Sun said the 28-year-old is now set to return to Qatar for the remainder of the World Cup.
They also say he may have already returned to the Middle East on Wednesday but is unlikely to be named in the starting XI for the France clash.
Surrey Police recently issued a statement regarding the burglary: “We are currently investigating a report of a burglary at an address in Oxshott, Leatherhead.
“Police were contacted just before 9pm on Saturday December 3 after the occupants of the property returned to their home to find a number of items including jewelery and watches had been stolen.
“Investigations to establish the circumstances are ongoing and the investigation continues.
“No threat of violence was involved as the items were discovered stolen retrospectively. Investigations into the circumstances are ongoing.
After news broke of the burglary, many England players are now protecting their homes with bodyguards and dogs around the clock while in Qatar.
Sterling will no doubt be a welcome return for England, having already scored for the Three Lions in their first win against Iran.
