Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo believes Kylian Mbappe will promise the French giants his future – despite the leader’s delay in signing a new deal at the Parc des Princes.
Mbappe, 22, is one of Europe’s most wanted players after wreaking havoc on club and country defenses since appearing in 2017 with Monaco.
The French star was the subject of a belated £ 189million offer from Real Madrid, which was rejected by PSG who insisted that not only did they not need the money, but that what was proposed was not close to his evaluation.
It is however widely claimed that Mbappe’s heart is set to move to the Bernabeu and is expected to join them for a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the 2021/222 campaign.
Nonetheless, Leonardo has no doubt that Mbappe will still be a PSG player next season and beyond, insisting that those at the top of the club “cannot see the future without him”.
“The fact that he stays was the only thing that could happen,” Leonardo told Canal Plus.
“We never thought of doing any of this without Kylian. We weren’t happy with Real Madrid’s behavior.
“We were clear on the offer they made. It was not enough from our point of view. It was less than what we paid.
“As for their last offer, it never came.
“I don’t see Kylian leaving at the end of this season.
“Mbappe’s relationship with PSG runs deep. I don’t think anyone here sees the future without him.
Mbappe has made a name for himself as one of the best players in the world at PSG, scoring 136 goals in 176 appearances for the club since his permanent arrival from Monaco in 2018.
The superstar has also been linked on several occasions with a move to Liverpool, with fans desperate to see the Frenchman move to Anfield.
Reds supporters believed the club’s new sponsorship with U.S. sportswear giants Nike – which also sponsors Mbappe – would help pave the way for the mega deal.
Jurgen Klopp has even commented publicly on the rumors, but it still seems speculation is nothing more than widespread hearsay, with major doubts as to whether the owners of Fenway Sports Group would sanction such a huge deal – even s ‘it could be available for free next summer. .
In 2019, when asked about the Mbappe rumors, Klopp said: “Buying this caliber of player is difficult. I don’t see any club at the moment that can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG.
“I don’t see any club, that’s how it is. And we are involved in the clubs that cannot do it. It’s that easy.
“Okay, from a sporting point of view, there isn’t a lot of reason not to sign him. What a player he is.
“But it’s about the money, of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance.
“Sorry for killing this story.”
