The PlayStation 5 is available in a single color scheme at launch (white and black) and Sony has not said if additional colors will be available in the near future.

Unsurprisingly, considering how easily the white panels on the PS5 can be removed, this has led many owners to start customizing their consoles with new color schemes.

This week, two users took the customization of the PS5 even further with bespoke treatments of the logo cutout on the left console plate – a design feature often overlooked in previous paint jobs.

A Twitter user created custom laser-cut inlays for the PS5’s PlayStation logo, with a retro color scheme.

The user said he created the logo using cutting tools at home. He added that he would be ready to sell the plastic inlays in the future, if Sony did not object.

Another Reddit user took it a step further with custom backlighting for their PS5 logo. User Stewartjja said he created the effect by cutting an electroluminescent panel into a custom shape and then plugging it into one of the PS5’s USB slots.

“I decided to backlight the Playstation logo on my PS5 and this is the result of the first attempt,” he wrote. “It’s really easy to do. El panel cut and placed under the logo.

PS5 owners have been showing off their custom PS5 paints since it first launched on November 12. A Reddit user used Plastidip to turn their PS5 into a black console.

Another PS5 owner used vinyl wrap to change the look of his console. Vinyl wrap is more traditionally used to protect a car’s paintwork and provide customization options.

A peripherals company selling custom PS5 faceplates was recently forced to cancel all of its orders and withdraw the products from sale, following a lawsuit reported by Sony.

PlateStation5.com had previously been forced to change its name to CustomizeMyPlates.com following a Sony complaint, before being hit by subsequent legal threats that led it to cease selling the product altogether.

Customize My Plates have turned to crowdfunding platform Gofundme to possibly bring back the custom fronts for the PS5, but at the time of publication it has only raised £ 300 or a goal of £ 75,000.

As revealed in an official PlayStation 5 teardown video last month, the PS5’s standard white shell comes off, theoretically allowing unofficial replicas to be easily inserted in its place.

Sony has yet to announce a variation on the standard white design of the PlayStation 5 or even commit to releasing additional console cases in the future.
