Samsung introduced many A-series phones in 2019 with various features in different price segments. It’s 2020 and it’s time for the new Samsung A-series phones. Well, Samsung went ahead and did it. Add “1” to the previous A-series phones and you will get the new A-series phones: Samsung Galaxy A51 (A50 + 1) and Samsung Galaxy A71 (A70 + 1).
Well, the Samsung Galaxy A71 is now available in Nepal for Rs. 49,999 and is currently available on Daraz, SmartDoko and offline stores across the country.
Samsung Galaxy A71 Impressions
In this article. let’s focus on the Samsung Galaxy A71. The Samsung Galaxy A71 is a mid-range top-level phone and I haven’t been satisfied enough with its specs in the last two versions: A70 and A70. Both used Snapdragon 675 and it is fair to say that they were asking a lot for the price.
But, there are new improvements to the A71 this time around, but let’s see if they are worth it.
Equipment
First I want to talk about the hardware, because this is where I think the A71 received a good upgrade. While the A70 and A70 used Snapdragon 675, Samsung A71 has Snapdragon 730 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
Obviously, we’re going to get better performance from the Snapdragon 730, but it’s not just that. Snapdragon 730 is 8 nm compared to 12 nm Snapdragon 675, so we get more efficiency with performance.
There are no other major hardware changes, but they certainly improved the built-in fingerprint sensor. The on-screen optical fingerprint sensor is now faster and much more consistent. The problem with the A70 and A70 was that the fingerprint sensor was slow and inconsistent and I preferred to unlock the face for faster access. Well, I no longer need to do it on the A71, although it also has a quick face unlock.
Design
When looking at it, the first change you will see is the camera module. Now it has 4 cameras in an L-shaped arrangement similar to the Note 10 Lite and S20 series. Then the other change is at the front, now there is a punch hole instead of a notch just like the S20 series. Well, the punch hole isn’t as small as its high-end counterparts, but it’s still better than the notch.
With the exception of the changes, the A71 still feels similar to the Galax A71. It always has a plastic back and a plastic frame. Sure, it looks like glass and looks like that, but it’s still plastic.
The back has a shiny finish and there are always these diagonal lines with the stripes. And, yes, the back gives off a rainbow of colors when the light hits it.

I laugh!
The buttons are on the right side and there is a slot for three cards (double nano + dedicated microSD) on the left. below, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type C, a microphone and a speaker. In addition, there is a solo microphone.
The phone is big but it is not uncomfortable to hold one hand. In addition, it has good adhesion. However, it fairly easily captures fingerprints.
Pin up
Not much to say about the display as it is very similar to the A70. It has a Super AMOLED Full HD panel and since it is the Samsung screen, it is bright, colorful and vivid. 90HZ would have been much more fluid but good! the battery life would have taken a serious hit.
Camera
At the end of 2019, we saw a lot of quad cameras and that’s what we get on the Samsung Galaxy A71. 64MP main sensor, 12MP Ultrawide sensor, 5MP depth sensor and 5MP macro sensor.
The improved 64-megapixel main sensor will give you more detailed images and improved low-light shots. And, upgrading the pixels on the ultra wide angle is also nice, the 12MP sensor is meant to provide you with more detail and that’s what you need for incredible landscapes.
So the main sensor and the ultra wide sensor have been upgraded, but it still has the same 5MP depth sensor. But, there is a new 5MP macro sensor which should be superior to a 2MP macro sensor which is common in other mid-range smartphones. Well, we will see if this is true in our full review.
On the front, it still has a 32MP selfie sensor but now it can capture videos up to 4K.
Drums
There are no upgrades in terms of battery capacity and charge. It still has a 4,500mAh battery and a fast charge of 25W, which I think is pretty good. But of course, we would like to see a gigantic 5000mAh or 6000mAh battery, right?
Software
Samsung Galaxy A71 is available with One UI 2.0 in addition to Android 10. One UI 2.0 doesn’t have a lot of changes but there are some minor improvements.
Most notably, the Samsung Edge Panel and Samsung Edge Lighting are now available on the A71 and A51 models. These features were previously reserved on the premium S series. Well, it’s nice to see the A series benefit from more premium features.
Speaking again, it has new gesture navigation similar to native Android.
Now…
Samsung Galaxy A71 is beautiful packaging. We get good upgrades in the camera and chipset department. For my part, I am happy to see a new chipset and a good one at that.
Other things remain fairly similar to the Galaxy A70, but it’s a nice upgrade and a very necessary one, I have to say. However, this is the asking price of Rs. 49,999 is expensive compared to its competitors. So I will say that the new Samsung Galaxy A71 is a good smartphone. But how much? We will find out in our full review.
