CHARLOTTTE, NC (WFXR) – It’s day two of the ACC Basketball launch event in Charlotte. With the spotlight on women and Wake Forest, Jen Hoover, from Roanoke, is starting a milestone season on the sidelines. The former basketball player of William Byrd is preparing for her tenth season at the head of her alma mater. Last year, Hoover became the most successful coach in Demon Deacons history with 146 wins to his name.
Wake Forest just made her second NCAA tournament appearance and her first since 1988, winning the ninth seed in the big dance and as she looks back on the past decade, she says she’s learned a lot from ACC training. “It’s crazy. I can’t believe it’s been so long. It’s hard to imagine it’s been so long, but when I start to go back and talk about some of the players who have played for me and even in my first class when you start to think about kids and some of them have had kids it starts to soak in like oh wow it’s been ten years… you have to believe in your kids and i love these kids, i believe in them and i believe in us and every day in practice i try to make sure they know this, ”Hoover said.
