A Premier League footballer arrested in July on suspicion of rape has had his bail extended.
Three rape allegations have been made against the player, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
A police investigation into one of those allegations was dropped in July, with the Metropolitan Police confirming they would take no action regarding an alleged offense in June 2021.
But two other allegations are still under investigation. An original August bail date was extended to October, and that has since been extended again.
A statement from the Metropolitan Police read: “On July 4, an allegation of the rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to the police.
“The alleged rape was reported to have occurred in June 2022. On July 4, a man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody.
“While in police custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape allegedly committed in April and June 2021 against another woman in her twenties.
“No further action will be taken in relation to the alleged breach in June 2021 as the relevant legislation had not yet come into force at the time it allegedly took place.
“This was explained to the complainant who continues to be supported by officers.
“The man was released on bail until a date in early October, but his bail has since been extended – an exact date awaits.”
In July, the club explained that their player denies the allegations and remains available for selection.
