As part of our current series During International Women’s Month, we showcased women from all facets of the industry through our “Women To The Front” campaign.
With the belief that women should not only be at the forefront of the conversation this month (but every month), our goal is to showcase artists, entrepreneurs, creatives, business owners and the pionneers. The next step in our series is Alexandra Baker, founder and CEO of High Rise public relations.
Originally from the United Kingdom, the Los Angeles-based journalist and consultant began her career in New York 19 years ago before setting out on her own with High Rise, a public relations and music, fashion and style consulting agency. life.
Representing some of the world’s greatest talent, Baker has built an impressive list of female clients including Billie Eilish, Clairo, Tove Lo, Melanie C and M.I.A, to name a few. In addition to representing the titans of the industry, Baker also works to develop emerging talents with individualized attention to detail.
As a public relations veteran and female CEO, Baker occupies a unique position in his perspectives towards the music industry. She recognizes how lucky she is to work not only with such talented artists, but also with good artists.
“I hate to be cheesy but I’m so lucky and grateful that I can work with so many good people, all of my clients are, and I make it my business to help them find the platforms and partnerships to use their goodwill helping others, ”shares Baker.
“I really think we all sleep better at night and can handle the madness of the music industry if we all find time to help others to some extent.”
As for his own musical tendencies, Baker quotes’ Be Happy ‘from Mary J Blige,’ Love Hangover ‘from Diana Ross and’ Summertime Sadness’ from Lana Del Rey, but also mentions Eilish’s smash hit, ‘bad guy ‘(Duh!).
Baker has a special affinity for Eilish, with whom she has worked since the age of 14. The two have built a solid and supportive professional relationship over the years, which remains as Eilish’s popularity continues to soar astronomically.
Yet, says Baker, Eilish remains a humble and hardworking client: “Working with Billie has been one of the most incredible experiences of my career to date.” Baker continues: “Everything we dreamed of has come true. See a young woman so young, bright and fiercely independent flourish over the years and flourish and discover that her voice has been more than satisfactory. Not just as a publicist, but as a woman and a mother, I couldn’t be more proud. “
Baker will continue to build a meaningful client list not only to defend female artists, but also to all artists who share his hunger to create a brighter and more meaningful industry.
