In the days and weeks leading up to a new vehicle’s debut, companies will occasionally strip a bit of camouflage from their test mules, giving the world a little glimpse. Porsche, however, isn’t shy about the 2021 Taycan Cross Turismo – as these images prove, the company is putting on a full-fledged exhibition, not just a peep show.
Spotted outside a Southern California mall by Instagrammer @noobtographer and provided to user @wilcoblok, this totally undisguised Taycan Cross Turismo rides high and proud on rather attractive wheels. The rollers appear to be inspired by generative design, a discipline that uses natural branch-like shapes to build strength without adding extra weight. The swept and swirled design is very unusual and attractive, with five aerodynamic-looking spokes that are completely distinct from other Taycans we’ve seen.

Otherwise, it’s the standard Cross Turismo fare: a slightly higher ride height, low-profile roof rails, side sills and plastic wheel arches. This example also shows its interior for the camera, and unsurprisingly, it looks a lot like the regular Taycan. In this case, the black upholstery contrasts beautifully with the matte finish woodwork and burnished shine. Expect exceptional build quality from the Cross Turismo.
It’s almost certain that the long-roof version of the Taycan will have more headroom in the back and a bit more cargo space, solving two problems we encountered with the classic EV. While it still won’t compete with an S-Class for space, it should be a bit more comfortable without sacrificing Porsche style or dynamics.
The company hasn’t revealed detailed powertrain or vehicle specs, but with as much skin as this Cross Turismo shows, we don’t think it will be long before we know exactly what it is. We expect it to be available as all-wheel-drive, which means the recently revealed rear-wheel-drive model should only be limited to regular fastback status. The wagon will likely offer 4S powertrains with 522 horsepower (390 kilowatts) and 670 horsepower (500 kW) Turbo, although the 750 horsepower (560 kW) Turbo S will also be available. The 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo will likely cost a little more than the current $ 103,800 4S and $ 150,900 Turbo versions.
