If there is a car from the 80s that really sold like hotcakes, it would be the Pontiac Fiero. The two-seater mid-engine sports car moved nearly 400,000 units during production from 1983 to 1988 and was the first American mid-engine sports car produced in bulk.
The Fiero was not without fault, however. It suffered from reliability issues at the time, and its performance was not exceptional. Imagine having to run 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in 11.3 seconds.

But that didn’t stop car buyers from the United States from buying the car. As I said, Pontiac has sold many Fiero units during its five years of production. After all, it was the first mass-produced, two-seat, mid-engined American sports car, and for a time it was the only one in this category.
What if GM had to rethink the Fiero for modern times? Marouane Bembli, also known as The Sketch Monkey on Youtube, got the idea and tried to apply its magic on the Fiero. The result? See the picture above.
While Bembli has done a great job in modernizing the redesigned Fiero, we can’t help but think that it is a bit lacking in some areas. The rear entry is a great touch, with the BBS wheels replacing the puny ones of the original thing. Our biggest problem, however, was the rear wing built into the body. It won’t work because, you know, the engine compartment sometimes has to see the sun. We’re not as sure about the exhaust pipes, but it’s only us.
And you? What do you think of this modernized Fiero? Let us know in the comments section below.
