After a long wait, Google has finally launched a public beta version of its new Android Auto redesign, dubbed “Coolwalk”. The updated UI aims to make multitasking easier while keeping the most important cards at your fingertips. The update is currently part of a beta program that you must sign up for, although the program is often full, making it difficult to sign up.
We are curious to know how many of you were able to register and who received the new Coolwalk interface.
We were supposed to see the Coolwalk update coming over the summer, but Google took longer to improve the experience. As a result, there are notable differences between Coolwalk’s first reveal and what we have now in beta.
The dynamic split screen is still there, adapting to different screen sizes and display orientations. However, the Maps card has been moved closer to the driver’s side for better accessibility when navigating. The map also has a full-screen mode in case you don’t want any distractions while navigating.
Other UI changes to Android Auto include the bottom or side app dock for quick access to certain apps. Notifications have also been minimized along the app’s dock. The new media card will display music and podcasts from apps such as YouTube Music and also includes a swipeable UI that lets users view more options, such as Google Assistant recommendations. The media card can also change size according to your needs.
If you received the new Coolwalk UI, let us know in the comments on the poll or on our social media, and let us know what you think of the redesign so far. Android Central will also test it, so see if the long wait was worth it.
If you haven’t had a chance to sign up, you can always check out the Android Auto test program to see if there are any openings. You can also check out our AAWireless review if wireless Android Auto is something you’re interested in.
The AAWireless adapter frees up your phone port by allowing you to connect your phone to Android Auto without a cable. It’s a small, lightweight device that offers smooth performance and easy setup.
