Police: One dead, person of interest in custody in active shooter situation at CHI St. Vincent North in Sherwood – KARK

SHERWOOD, Ark. – One person has died and another has been taken into custody in connection with an active shooting event at CHI St. Vincent North Hospital in Sherwood.

During a news conference shortly after 12:30 p.m., Sherwood Police Department Chief Jeff Haga reported that one person at the hospital had died of gunshot wounds and that “one person of interest” had been stopped.

An SPD spokesman said the call for police came around 10 a.m. and officers were on the scene shortly after. They immediately established a perimeter and entered the building, clearing the hospital.

The department confirmed to the public around 11:15 a.m. that there was an active shooter at the hospital.

In a tweet sent just after 1 p.m.the Little Rock Police Department said it received a tip that a potential suspect in the shooting was spotted shortly after 11 a.m. at an Exxon station at 5223 South University.

Officers said they arrived at the gas station, spotted the individual and took him into custody.

Video from Arkansas Department of Transportation traffic cameras in the area showed law enforcement stranding drivers on streets near the hospital, and the iDriveArkansas map system shows no traffic in the streets around the establishment.

A hospital spokesperson said CHI St. Vincent was working with Sherwood Police to investigate an alleged incident at CHI St. Vincent North in Sherwood. Shortly after 11 a.m., the hospital confirmed that a lockdown was in place.

Video from the scene also showed multiple agencies responding, including the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Jacksonville Police Department, North Little Rock Police Department and Arkansas State Police. Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
