Now on sale, the Polestar 2 is a high-powered all-electric vehicle available in different configurations in terms of powertrain configuration. Just recently, Volvo’s electric spin-off brand launched a single-engine FWD variant of the EV at a more affordable price than the $ 59,900 Polestar 2 Launch Edition. Now there is a new update for the model.
Polestar just announced a massive over-the-air software update for the 2 and is making a number of healthy improvements. What caught our attention the most were the new features added to the Polestar app, including battery status, remote climate start and remote locking. The company says it’s still beta software, although it expects more features to be added over time.
“The updated Polestar app now brings additional convenience to owning a Polestar 2,” comments Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. “Just being able to preheat or cool the cabin remotely is something we know adds tremendous value to the everyday experience and we know Polestar 2 owners have been eagerly awaiting this feature.”
Another cool new feature is the so-called digital key which turns your smartphone into a car key. The brand claims that after extensive testing, this technology is found to be safer than a traditional keychain and is immune to relay attacks because it does not work on radio frequencies. The Polestar 2 uses no less than 18 Bluetooth sensors to communicate with the paired smart device. To start the vehicle, all you need to do is keep your smartphone inside the vehicle.
Updates to the Polestar app with the added vehicle functionality will be implemented automatically for customers who have already installed the app. It is important to note that the new features cannot be used until the latest vehicle software has been installed. Polestar will begin rolling out the software update for existing vehicles starting today.
