The first official renderings of the Pixel 4a 5G have now been leaked thanks to an online retailer in the UK, giving us a glimpse into the design of the next mid-ranger.
We think we know enough about the upcoming Pixel 4a 5G, which is probably the perfect budget 5G alternative that is compatible with the Pixel 5. However, we had yet to see the future smartphone in the flesh, even some substantial leaks. of the “premium” Pixel device at the end of 2020.
UK retailer John Lewis has now jumped the gun and incorrectly listed high-resolution renderings of the Pixel 4a 5G on its list for its stable partner – the Pixel 4a. While most tech fans consider this a big mistake, given this year’s confusing lineup, it’s actually quite understandable given the naming system this time around. This is clearly the Pixel 4a 5G, which has yet to be announced as there is a “5G” icon in the status bar and a familiar wallpaper as seen in previous leaks from Pixel 5.
The high-res images also strangely have Monday August 3 as the time and date listed in the Pixel Launcher’s At a Glance widget. Maybe this 5G-enabled smartphone was meant to launch alongside the smaller Pixel 4a? It’s hard to know, but it adds even more mystique to the lineup.
No details have been confirmed via this incorrect retail listing, but we already know from recent leaks what the Pixel 4a 5G will bring to the table. The screen will measure 6.2 inches and the 4a 5G will have an OLED panel that has the same 2340 x 1080 resolution as the smaller Pixel 4a and Pixel 5. As such, it has the worst PPI – at 413 – of Google’s Three Phones 2020.
The Snapdragon 765G is expected to come with 6 GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the Pixel 4a 5G includes the same camera setup that we’d expect on the most premium device. This is the same 12.2 megapixel primary lens and the same 16 MP wide angle (107 ° and ƒ / 2.2) that supports 1080p video recording at 240 FPS and 4K60. The front selfie camera is set to weigh 8 MP with an 83 ° field of view.
As you can see from the renderings, the Pixel 4a 5G also packs a 3.5mm headphone jack, which will help differentiate the 4a 5G from the 5 as a more “affordable” option. The supposed polycarbonate body is also shown – but only in black – and it looks like it will have the same matte finish as the Pixel 4a. It also retains a thicker bottom bezel, just like the 4a, and is expected to come with a 3,800mAh battery that only charges via 18W USB-C fast charging.
Google has already confirmed that the Pixel 4a 5G will only cost $ 499 in the United States, while an expected € 499 has been touted in Europe. Renderings don’t confirm the UK’s price for the Pixel 4a 5G, but we would expect parity with the rest of the world at around £ 499. Although we’ll surely learn more at Google’s “Launch Night In” event on September 30th.
We’ve now seen both the upcoming Google Pixel hardware in press renders and even some convenient leaks. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
