One of every photographer’s nightmares is having their camera bag stolen during a photoshoot. Well, it happened to a YouTuber, and the bag had some pretty expensive items in it.
When it comes to protecting my camera bag, I’m usually very vigilant. Opportunists and thieves will likely be aware that the contents of a photographer’s camera bag have a higher value than any other bag they might lift, and so whenever I’m in a public place I’ll rarely be outside. . However, this isn’t always possible – like shooting a YouTube video – and sometimes you may think you’re safe when you’re not.
In this video, Chris Hau talks about how his brand new Sony a7S III, a handful of Sony G Master lenses, and many accessories were stolen. It’s a tale that will make you wince, but I share it for three reasons. First of all, it’s a good reminder that you should always be on your guard with your camera bag; it can be stolen very quickly and almost anywhere. Second, I want to share the serial numbers of Hau’s equipment so our community can monitor it and maybe do justice. You can view the list of gear and serial numbers by clicking here. Finally, I want to take this opportunity to remind you that if you can’t afford to replace something, you must insure it! Hau also shares some great advice on this.
