Pete Davidson took to Instagram to reflect on his impending departure from Saturday Night Live.
Although Davidson does not have an account on the social media platform, he posted a long and moving message via the account of Dave Sirus, who writes for the show and also worked on its 2020 film, The King of Staten Island. His lyrics accompany a video of him celebrating the end of production on his first episode of SNL with fellow comedian Jerrod Carmichael.
“This video was taken 8 years ago. Jerrod sent it to me last night and it got me super emotional in the best way,” Davidson said up top. “In the video, I had just returned from my very first update and sketch. It’s crazy to think that today I will be doing my last.
Davidson said when he first joined the show in 2014, aged 20, he admittedly had “no idea” what he was doing. “I still don’t,” he joked, “but mostly back then.”
Davidson came to the show as a stand-up comedian, rather than a sketch performer, which sets him apart from many who end up as cast members. “I knew I could never keep up with or face a Kenan Thompson or a Kate McKinnon, so I was terrified of what I could possibly bring or do to such a historic and respected show and platform. I figured since I’m a stand-up, I’m just going to try out my stand-up and personal tracks on Weekend Update as myself and I’m so glad I did,” he said. he shares. “I have to share so much with this audience and literally grow in front of your eyes. We were together through the good times and the bad, the happiest and the darkest times. »
