Pep Guardiola and Man City couldn’t match Liverpool in the Premier League this season

It was City’s seventh league defeat this season, which surpassed Guardiola’s previous record.

Guardiola lost six league games in his first season in England while City finished third in the Premier League table in the 2016/17 campaign.

He wrongly proved his doubts by winning consecutive titles, but there will be no third successive triumph this year.

The leader in urban trail running, Liverpool, with 22 points and two other victories for the team of Jurgen Klopp will seal a first high-level title in 30 years for the club.

Guardiola’s men have suffered losses to Manchester United and the Wolves twice, as well as losses to Liverpool and the Norwich boys this quarter.

The former Barcelona coach refused to criticize his players after losing to Old Trafford – and disagreed with city midfielder Bernardo Silva’s assessment that it was “not acceptable”.

Guardiola said: “I do not agree with Bernardo. For 90 minutes, we played very well.

“In the first period, we had to be a little more aggressive in the last third, but in the second period, we did a little better.

“In general, we played well, but congratulations United for the victory.”

City could still have a memorable season.

They have already won the Carabao Cup for the third consecutive year and will face Newcastle in the FA Cup quarterfinals later this month.

City also have a 2-1 advantage over Real Madrid in their last 16 Champions League draw.
