LEVITTOWN, Penn. – An 18-year-old who was shot dead at Nockamixon National Park on Saturday died of his injuries, authorities said.
Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said Jason Kutt died after being shot in the park around 5:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Kutt was sitting with his girlfriend by the lake when he was shot in the back of the neck, he said.
Kutt’s girlfriend told law enforcement she heard a gunshot, saw Kutt fall backwards, and then saw a man in hunting gear standing behind a yellow door in Old Ridge Road after the shooting.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Weintraub said law enforcement is still trying to figure out the cause of the shooting.
“We want to get to the bottom of it. We don’t have any suspects, we don’t even know if a crime has been committed yet, “he said.” But we have to understand how Jason Kutt died. “
The distance between Kutt’s location and the gate was about 550 feet, the district attorney said.
Kutt was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, where he was pronounced dead on Monday.
Weintraub said investigators must determine if something criminal has happened. They must determine the mental state of the person responsible for the shooting, according to the DA.
Hunting was permitted there on the day of the shooting, Weintraub said.
Kutt wore a black hat with a bright orange brim while filming. He is about 6 feet 3 inches, according to the district attorney.
“He was a young man with his whole life ahead of him,” Weintraub said, adding that Kutt had no enemies.
Weintraub has asked the person responsible for the shooting to come forward for answers.
“Jason Kutt and his family deserve it,” he said.
Kutt, according to a social media post from his family, loved playing guitar, video games, and taking nature walks, as well as spending time with his girlfriend.
