Years before joining American Idol, Paula Abdul was told by two different psychics that the “Juggernaut” reality show was in her future.
The 60-year-old icon revealed the predictions were so accurate that she was even told to work with Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell on a ‘talent show’.

These spiritual readings took place three and two years, respectively, before he got the gig with American Idol. Paula insisted she had no idea what these two different mediums were about at the time, but said they were each very specific.

“I was told the hardships of the job and who I would be sitting in between,” she reflected, referring to fellow judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell. Paula was told the series would be a “talent show” and both advisers pointed out that the show would be a “juggernaut” that would “transcend generations”.
Abdul laughed thinking back on it because she said that at the time, her only reference for a TV talent show was Star Search.
“Almost three years after I got that advice, it all happened with American Idol,” she explained. ‘So it was, you know – it’s crazy.’
Paula signed with American Idol in 2002 and served as a judge for eight seasons, helping usher in some of music’s biggest names like season one winner Kelly Clarkson and season four winner Carrie Underwood.
Two networks and 20 seasons later, the psychics were right: the series is a global juggernaut and one of the most iconic reality shows of all time.
