Patti LaBelle is happy to share things with her friends – but in a new interview she reveals the time when Sir Elton John almost pushed that cuteness to its limit.
In the last episode of Andy Cohen Watch what is happening live, the iconic diva recounted how, back when she sang with the Bluebelles, John worked with her in the studio as a pianist. After long nights in the recording booth, LaBelle invited her group to come and eat at her place.
“I cooked for him and the group because nobody had any kilos, you know?” We were in London, ”she said. “So I would invite them to my loft every night and give them tupperware to take home because no one had to eat. I told them at the time, “Bring my tupperware to the next show. ” They did not do it.
LaBelle went on to say that years later she got a phone call from the Rocket Man himself and she made a very simple request. “I got a call years later saying, ‘Hi Patti, it’s Reggie, I want you to come see me tonight,'” she recalls of the star born Reginald Dwight. “I said, ‘Reggie, who are you opening up for? He said ‘I’m Elton John now.’ So I said, “Punk, where’s my tupperware? “
Naturally, John decided it was right to reimburse LaBelle for the tupperware he had lost. “He left that on the piano,” she said, as she produced a stunning diamond encrusted ring in the shape of a cross. “I said, ‘Elton, your ring!’ He said, ‘Patti, this is your tupperware.’ I’m so happy with its success, and I haven’t sold it!
