The New England Patriots are placing running back Sony Michel, guard Shaq Mason and defensive end Derek Rivers on the reserve / COVID-19 roster, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday.
Pelissero also noted that the NFL’s new “high risk” close contact category means anyone added to it must self-isolate for five days, and he understands that not all of these moves are the result of new positive cases of COVID-19.
The NFL was aware of the Patriots’ situation, with three other players landing on the reserve / COVID-19 roster, and comfortable protocols were followed, Pelissero added.
The team also bred offensive tackle Caleb Benenoch to the practice squad and named tight end Rashod Berry, defensive end Nick Thurman and wide receiver Isaiah Zuber as COVID-19 replacements, per Pelissero .
As for Sunday’s Week 6 slate, all games, including the Patriots vs. Broncos contest, remain as planned.
