Guimaraes has a £100million release clause in his contract which expires at the end of June.
As talkSPORT has previously reported, the Magpies will need to sell one of their star players to stay on the right side of the Premier League’s spending rules.
Newcastle paid £35million to sign Guimaraes from Lyon in January 2022, so any bid close to the 26-year-old’s release clause will represent a significant profit on the balance sheet.
It is understood that the Brazil international has a burning desire to play in the Champions League.
