The homeland of the Carolina Panthers continues as they prepare to face the Detroit Lions at 1 p.m. ET on November 22 at Bank of America Stadium. The Panthers are limping in the game on a five-game losing streak.
Carolina found itself the reluctant recipients of an unfortunate 46-23 punch to the stomach against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. Despite the loss, Carolina had good performances from QB Teddy Bridgewater, who had two touchdowns and 136 yards on 24 attempts in addition to hitting a rushing touchdown, and WR DJ Moore, who caught four passes for a touchdown and 96 yards. Bridgewater ended up with a passer rating of 141.80.
Meanwhile, Detroit came out on top last week in a bite against the Washington soccer team, stealthily passing 30-27. Kudos to the bettors for accurately predicting both the winner and the closing margin. Quarterback Matthew Stafford and RB D’Andre Swift were among the main playmakers for Detroit as the former passed for three touchdowns and 276 yards on 33 attempts and the latter snatched one receiving a touchdown. Stafford’s 55-yard TD bomb at WR Marvin Hall in the first quarter was at the top of the reel.
Special teams collected 12 points for Detroit. K Matt Prater started in three field goals, the longest at 59 yards in the fourth quarter, which ultimately made up the difference in the competition.
The Panthers are now 3-7 while the Lions are 4-5. A pair of defensive stats to keep in mind as you watch: Carolina stumbles into the game with the fifth fastest touchdown allowed in the NFL, after dropping 14 this season. Detroit has had its own struggles as they are the worst in the league in touchdowns allowed at 33 over the season. It’s possible that one of those Achilles’ heels will end up tripping the losing team.
