Overwatch 2 Offline Thursday Night as Blizzard Rolls Out Patches

Blizzard Entertainment said it took Monitor 2 offline Thursday night in a bid to roll out patches for the game, which launched in a largely unplayable state on Tuesday and has been rocky ever since. During two separate windows on Thursday, Surveillance 2 servers will be down while bug fixes and database upgrades are deployed.

Here’s Blizzard’s planned downtime schedule for Monitor 2according to a post on the official developer forums:

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. PDT: Servers will be down while we deploy a patch to address some bugs related to account merging, login, and first user experience. Players will not be able to access servers during this time.

6:00-9:00 p.m. PDT (approximately): We are making significant upgrades to our databases to accommodate player queues. Players will not be able to access servers during this time.

Blizzard said PC gamers might need to update the Monitor 2 client to address “reports of crashes and black screen issues”.

Monitor 2 was released on Tuesday as a major update to the original game, but long queues to enter games, frequent disconnects, and no-defer progress plagued players on day one. In addition to major server disconnection and player database issues, Blizzard said a DDoS attack on its servers affected connection issues and booting players from games. Blizzard apologized for the game’s issues in an update Wednesday night, telling players it was working to fix a variety of bugs and performance issues.
