They could be neighbors, but things could get awkward with Prince Harry and Orlando Bloom following the launch of the satirical animated TV series The Prince, writes Kerry Parnell.
Either Prince Harry is in the joke or his neighbor Orlando Bloom is laughing. Because when Harry sees Legolas making an impression of him on The Prince, he’s in shock. And Orlando and Katy’s tea party invitation just got canceled.
The satirical animated television series The Prince launched in the US this week – much to the dismay in the UK.
The comedy series, by Gary Janetti of Family Guy, follows Prince George as he weaves his way through the fictional antics of the royal family.
The Queen is voiced by acting legend Frances de la Tour, Prince George by Gary Janetti, Prince Charles and Prince Philip by Dan Stevens of Downton Abbey (what would the Dowager Countess say?), Princess Charlotte is Sophie Turner, Prince William of Game Of Thrones is Iwan Rheon of Game Of Thrones and Catherine is Amanda of Motherland, aka Lucy Punch. That, at least, must have tickled Kate. And Orlando voices Harry.
But the Real Throne is no game, and royal commentators are shocked that the show is making fun of an eight-year-old. Harry and Meghan biographer Omid Scobie called it “HBO Max’s no f ** ks-given series” and royal writer Robert Jobson made the relevant point: “Would an American company order a similar series? on the child of an American president? “
These are caricatures – William is so pampered, a butler carries him to the bathroom, Prince Louis is a mini thug, and the Queen shoots a servant for startling him.
Unlike The Crown, which confused the facts with fiction, the only thing it is obviously about is a joke, the latest comedic incarnation of the Royal Family, joining Spitting Image and The Windsors.
They are at least used to it. Princess Diana Loved Spitting Image – Stephen Fry revealed that after coming for tea on New Years Day once, Diana told the actor: this in my room. They hate it, of course, but I love it.
The difference this time around is that the show features children, who are not a good game for anything, whether they live in a palace or not.
And despite their leak, Harry and Meghan, who are voiced by Condola Rashad of Billions, are also being ridiculed – by one of their friends.
Orlando and Katy Perry live “just down the road” from the couple, and the prince has previously said they “keep in touch” via text message, about neighborhood things.
They both have little girls, which would have been perfect for the Montecito games. But Daisy and Lili’s friendship doesn’t seem to be blossoming now.
Unless Harry has a great sense of humor, Orlando’s turn as the hapless prince could spell the end of this WhatsApp chat.
In one scene, Harry moves into an apartment and says, “This may be the smallest palace I’ve ever been to,” to which Meghan responds, “Well, it’s an apartment.”
“Yes, an apartment palace, I know that. Lots of small palaces inside a big palace, ”he replies.
Either Harry was in on it or Orlando has just proven that good neighbors don’t always become good friends.
