ONTARIO, NY — The Ontario Arc hosted something very special on Tuesday morning to help integrate people with disabilities into employment.
He received a $25,000 grant from New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID). This investment will help people with disabilities and skilled veterans succeed in rewarding employment.
The importance for people with disabilities to have meaningful work and income is one of Arc’s major priorities.
“They’ve historically shown that they want to work, they enjoy the work environment, but also, it helps them live in their community,” said Jennifer Lawrence, NYSID’s director of marketing and communications. “When you have a paycheck you can access what your community has to offer it’s social life sporting events movies you can shop at local businesses you want to be part of the community and have the same quality of life.
Currently, the unemployment rate in New York State for people with disabilities is approximately 67%.
