This year, we also celebrate the thriving achievements of our Ellen DeGeneres Campus in Rwanda, which opened in 2022, and which will be featured in a Discovery Channel special on September 23 (as well as on Animal Planet on September 24, then streaming on Discovery+ and Max). This will be an insight into the creation of this incredible new conservation center in Rwanda, which is also the first permanent home purpose-built for the Fossey Fund.
Since its opening, our Ellen Campus has welcomed more than 40,000 visitors to view interactive exhibits, including a recreation of Dian’s original cabin, an immersive 360° theater and a new “Gorilla Trek” virtual reality experience. Education is also a key focus of the Ellen Campus, with over 7,500 local schoolchildren visiting, over 150 trainings for various groups and hosting 400 local university students for a variety of learning opportunities.
We are so excited that Ellen’s documentary will give the world a glimpse into this important gorilla conservation center and the work of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund just in time for World Gorilla Day.
