the OMG Girlz were absolute trendsetters during the band’s heyday around 2012. The Atlanta-based teenagers dazzled the music industry with their unique style, talent, and hits like “Gucci This” and “Baddie.” We can now exclusively confirm the story behind how the talented trio inspired Beyoncealso!
Beyoncé’s nickname inspired by OMG Girlz
The Shade Room Teens Social Media Director, Taylor Beckhamchopped exclusively with Bahja Rodriguez, Zonnique Pullins, and Breaunna Womack as friends reminisce about the day Beyonce thanked them for being the inspiration behind her first Instagram nickname, “Baddie Bey.” In case you missed it, the band’s song “Baddie” debuted in 2012 with the purple-, pink-, and blue-haired teenagers coining the phrase in a song.
Breaunna, however, pays homage to famed dance choreographer Sean Bankhead who called his dancers “bad guys” in youtube videos from the early 2010s. She says the band just brought it to the main stream and often used l expression during interviews – even calling Bey “nasty” while they were doing a radio show on the West Coast.

Bahja, 25, added that they took the phrase “nasty” and made it popular with their song and on the promotional tour, which Beyonce paid attention to.
“We put the ‘bad guy’ first. Beyoncé said it herself. She wrote us a letter… her Instagram name was Baddie Bey because that’s what we called her. With Beyonce it was totally unexpected but I know we were all SHOOK.
Breaunna, 27, recalled the time Bey recognized them for inspiring her IG name with a handwritten note. Beyonce wrote the note with a marker – something they felt thoughtful and left them speechless.
“I remember we were at the booth and we got the call – the letter she sent to our manager.”
Beyonce even signed the letter as “Baddie B.”
