In the photo, Ella, who works as a nurse, appears to be coming out of the waves with wet brunette tresses and a beach backdrop.

She looked naturally delighted as she rested her head in the palms of her hands, proudly showing off her elegant three-stone engagement ring.

Their famous friends were quick to comment, including former Sunrise host Samantha Armytage, who wrote, “Congratulations to you both…wonderful news!!!”

Mack made headlines in July when he clocked the slowest stage for Australia in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay heats at the Tokyo Olympics.

The athlete, who won gold in the 400m freestyle at the previous Games in Rio de Janeiro, was left out of the squad for the final, where Australia took bronze behind Great Britain and Russia.

He had predicted his omission from the relay final, moments after the heats, where Australia qualified second fastest.

“Probably not as good as I expected,” Mack told Channel Seven afterwards.

“It probably wasn’t good enough to make the final team, which is heartbreaking, but we got the team through and that’s all that matters.

“It was a privilege to be part of it.”

Mack left Tokyo with a bronze medal for her run in the relay heats.

Despite a disappointing performance in Tokyo, Mack said he plans to keep swimming and is aiming for a third Olympics in 2024 in Paris.
