Olivia Rodrigo will pay tribute to Alanis Morissette by inducting her into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. “I remember first hearing Alanis when I was about 13. I was in the car with my parents when ‘Jagged Little Pill’ came on,” Rodrigo said in a statement provided to the organization, through his Instagram. “I heard ‘Perfect’, I was like, ‘Oh my God… Can you write songs like that?’ I just looked at music and songwriting in a completely different way.” Rodrigo will present the award Sept. 24 at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala at Massey Hall in Toronto. Alessia Cara, Corey Hart and Nickelback will also perform at the ceremony.
Rodrigo and Morissette previously tied the knot for the cover of Rolling Stone’s “Musicians on Musicians” series in October 2021. Morissette also stepped out to the Greek Theater in Los Angeles to join Rodrigo on his “Sour” tour, and the pair have performed a version of Morissette’s nerve-wracking classic “You Gotta Know.” Morissette is also currently on a world tour in 2022, and her classic album “Jagged Little Pill” inspired a Broadway musical of the same name.
For her part Rodrigo, following her “Sour” tour, she appeared in “musical high school: The Musical: The Series” season 3, walking the red carpet alongside co-star and rumored ex Joshua Bassett to celebrate the July premiere.
